This Christmas, JOA has chosen to support three non-profits. They are the C4 Foundation, the California Wildfire Relief Fund, and 4Ocean. Each of these has special significance to us at JOA.
At this time of year, I take time to think about our service men and women who are not able to be with their loved ones during the holidays. Research has shown that deployed service members and their families are susceptible to a range of negative emotions including depression and loneliness.
The C4 Foundation’s mission to preserve family unity by creating an environment where Navy Seals and their families can bond as a family pre-deployment as well as during and after deployment at a 560-acre retreat property in San Diego. The C4 Foundation was inspired by the heroism of Special Warfare Operator Chief Charles Humphrey Keating, IV (called C4). You can read more about Charlie’s story here.
It goes without saying for every Californian why this fund is important. Wildfires have become a too-present reality in our state. The California Wildfire Fund helps first responders meet immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products, and shelter. Once initial relief work is complete, this fund transitions to support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations responding to these fires.
Last but not least, we want to support our planet. 4Ocean was started by two surfers who saw how the proliferation of trash and plastic in our oceans was threatening wildlife and the livelihood of people around the globe. 4Ocean has become a global ocean cleanup operation that has pulled over 2.2 million pounds of trash from the ocean and coastline through the purchase of 4Ocean Bracelets.
We are very proud to be supporting these organizations this year. These and others around the world help give us purpose and cause, and remind us to give back, now and into the future.
