James A. Musick Facility
Client Background
James A. Musick Facility is a minimum-security correctional center on an unincorporated pocket of land in Orange County.
Project Overview
The expansion of the James A. Musick Facility includes the new construction of a 896 bed low security jail facility. The project scope includes site improvements to support the construction of inmate housing units, inmate programing classrooms, administration space, inmate visitation, food services, medical/dental services, employee locker rooms, hardscaping, landscaping, and a warehouse/maintenance building.
Our Role
JOA Group is providing project management services, assisting and coordinating with vendors for architecture and construction management. Responsibilities include reviewing and approving RFIs, CORs, as well as site coordination. JOA Group also provides coordination review and approval with other authorities such as Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC), State Fire Marshal (SFM) as well as local entities including Southern California Edison (SCE), SoCal Gas, and Irvine Ranch Water District (IRWD). General project progress is reported by the County’s CM and reviewed by JOA Group and several other members of the project team.
Project Challenges
The main challenge of this project is coordination review and approval with key stakeholders, authorities having jurisdiction, and local entities.
