THE ORANGE COUNTY LAW LIBRARY GETS AN UPGRADE

A Resource and a Local Landmark

The Orange County Public Law Library is a California-chartered, public library with reference materials and research services on state and federal statutes, case law, and other important issues. The building is used frequently by attorneys, law students, as well as the general public of Orange County.

Project Type: Deferred Maintenance

The 55,000 square foot facility was in disrepair and required interior and exterior deferred maintenance improvements. These upgrades included exterior reseal, swing-type window replacement, specialized waterproofing on the concrete roof, and a new standing metal roof parapet cap. In addition, the building needed a new HVAC system for the server room as well as other miscellaneous repairs.  JOA, who has worked for the County of Orange Public Works for over 10 years, was hired to manage the job.

JOA’s Role: Project and Construction Management

JOA’s handled the Project and Construction Management of the deferred maintenance from beginning to end, including scope of work, cost estimating, procurement, construction administration, and project closeout.  JOA used a job order contracting system to expedite the project, and coordinated closely with the library staff to schedule and phase the construction work. Library operations continued unimpeded throughout the entire project and the maintenance was completed on-time and on-budget.
